OSRS Merching Explained
Merching is the slow, higher-conviction cousin of flipping: you buy before the price moves and sell after. This page covers how it works on the Grand Exchange, how organised merch clans operate, how 07Flip detects accumulation and dumps, and which items are liquid enough to merch right now.
Merching vs flipping
A flip captures the spread: buy at the instant-sell price, sell at the instant-buy price, keep the difference minus the 2% tax. It is repeatable, low-risk and limited by buy limits. A merch is a directional bet: you accumulate an item because you expect its price to rise, whether from an upcoming update, a supply cut, or simply because it is far below its historical range. The profit per item is larger, the holding time is longer, and you can be wrong. Most successful merchers flip for steady income and merch with a smaller share of their bank.
How merch clans work, and how to see them
An organised merch has three phases. In accumulation, the group buys a low-volume item quietly over days, keeping offers just above the sell price so the chart barely moves. In the pump, they raise their offers, post about the item, and volume spikes. In the dump, they sell into the new buyers and the price returns to where it started, usually within a day.
Each phase leaves a footprint in the data. Accumulation shows as buy-side volume rising while price is flat, often near a historical support level or all-time low. The pump shows as a one-sided spike. The dump shows as abnormal sell volume against a falling price. 07Flip's merch detection looks for the first footprint and reports it with a sell target and a confidence rating; its bot-dump detection looks for the third, using hourly volume over rolling three-day windows. Premium users get both as Discord and push alerts.
A merching workflow on 07Flip
- Start from a signal, not a hunch: a merch alert, an item on the 30-day-low list, or an upcoming update on the game update feed.
- Open the item page. Check the 90-day and five-year charts, the RSI, the dump status and the hourly volume. A merch needs enough daily volume that you can exit without crashing the price.
- Size it. The Plan respects buy limits and tells you how many 4-hour windows a position takes to build and to unwind.
- Log the position in the flip tracker and set a sell alert at your target and a warning alert below your entry.
- Exit into strength. Sell while volume is still rising; the retrace after a pump is fast.
Most liquid items right now
Liquidity is the one thing a merch cannot do without. These are the highest-volume items on the Grand Exchange at this moment, refreshed every five minutes. High volume does not make an item a good merch, but low volume makes almost any item a bad one.

Frequently asked questions
What is merching in OSRS?
Merching is buying a quantity of an item over time, holding it while demand or supply changes, and selling at a higher price later. It differs from flipping, which captures the spread between instant-buy and instant-sell prices in minutes. Merching takes hours to weeks and depends on being right about where the price is going.
What is the best OSRS merching tool?
A merching tool needs three things: a way to see accumulation before the price moves, a way to see dumps so you do not buy into one, and alerts so you do not have to watch charts. 07Flip provides merch detection (accumulation signals with sell targets), bot-dump detection, price alerts, and a Discord feed for Premium users, alongside the free flip finder and item charts.
Is merching against the rules?
Buying and selling on the Grand Exchange at your own judgement is normal play. Jagex's rules target real-world trading and organised manipulation. 07Flip's merch detection is designed to help you see manipulation and avoid being on the wrong side of it, not to coordinate it.
How much GP do I need to merch?
Enough to buy a meaningful share of an item's daily volume without moving the price yourself, which usually means a few million for mid-tier items and far more for rares. See the guide on how much GP you need to start flipping for concrete tiers.
