Community Spotlight: South American Community
It's time for another Community Spotlight! Here we catch up with community space leaders, artists, and content creators that we think you need to know about! We'll learn all about the work they do, plus find out more about their time in Gielinor. We'll also round up some of the latest news, events and content from across the month so you don't miss a thing! This month we're celebrating our launch of Brazilian game worlds by focusing our spotlight on the communities and creatives from the region. In case you missed it, we also just announced three new region servers we're looking to launch in the near future. You can find more info on this in our Campfire overview blog. Without further ado, let's meet this month's guest!
Elliedd I’m Eliana, though most people know me as Elliedd. I’m a singer, dancer, and OSRS streamer from Buenos Aires, Argentina! So, what got you into gaming? When I was a kid, I used to play games at home with my older sisters; my mum would bring us co-op games for Sega, PlayStation, or PC. Those moments became some of my favorite memories growing up. There was something really special about all of us sitting together, sharing the same screen, laughing, competing, and just being completely present in the moment. We spent hours playing games like Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Harry Potter, and X-Men. How did you discover Old School? Fast forward to the pandemic in 2021, I had the chance to reconnect with that side of myself after years of not actively gaming. I really needed an escape from my own thoughts during lockdown. I didn’t even have a computer of my own, so everything started mostly on mobile. My cousin, who goes by ArkanisTV, kept inviting me to play games and watch his streams. His favorite game had always been Old School RuneScape. That’s when everything kind of clicked. I made accounts for everything and decided to start engaging with his community. My English wasn’t very fluent at the time, so I mostly spoke Spanish while trying out different games with them. Eventually, his friends and other streamers from the Latin American community convinced me to try OSRS, so I created my first account “OSRSEllie.” They even got me my first bond and guided me through my first steps. It was a really wholesome experience, and I still carry that with me. Fun fact: the first time he got me on his stream, he said we’d do a “small” stream together, which ended up being him sending me into MM2 guideless for the first time. It lasted seven hours, imagine that. Back then, I didn’t understand much, but now I think it’s pretty funny! I really just love how OSRS brings people together. It gave me a space where I can just be myself and build real and genuine connections even in moments when I am struggling. I’ll always be grateful to OSRS for being that place where so many of us can enjoy ourselves in a world that isn’t always easy to navigate. How did you get started with streaming? When my cousin and his friend got me back into gaming I was enjoying it so much that I thought, why not try myself? I used my savings to build my first PC and just started. Since then I haven’t really stopped. At first I streamed only in Spanish, and over time I got more comfortable with English. Now I mix both, and I really enjoy sharing my culture with others. One fun thing is that my first time really engaging with English-speaking communities was when I got invited by a group of amazing female creators to do a charity stream for International Women’s Day. It was super fun and kind of opened the door for me to put myself out there more! What have been some of your favourite moments on stream? By far, my favorite achievement since I started playing was getting my first ever Infernal Cape. If you can’t see the video above, click here! It wasn’t even a year into the game, and I really pushed myself to learn more challenging content. At the time, I was playing on Wi-Fi with around 180ms, so it was definitely tough. That’s when I learned things like Prayer flicking for the first time. I remember being so hyped and happy that day that I couldn’t even sleep. I ended up spending the whole night sending mass raids with my friends. It’s one of those moments I’ll never forget! There's also the day I got my Vorki pet while wearing a Vorkath inspired FX makeup, duoing with Muts when he got Tbow on his HCIM, and special mention for my silly gnome costume! What do you enjoy most about being part of your community, and can you share a stand-out moment? Honestly, it’s the connection. It never feels like people are just watching, we’re all vibing. I love supporting each other, celebrating our achievements, and sharing all the laughs (and the occasional trolling). More than once, my online community has lifted me up, and I love to think I do that for them too! If I had to pick one crazy moment from my community, I’d say the time I accidentally went too deep into the Wilderness on a high-risk world with my shadow staff. After it got PKed, the player (who had found me through my streams) reached out to me on Discord and ended up returning it to me! I still treasure that moment. We became friends after that, I’ve helped him learn more PvM and he even got his Inferno cape with me! He also took me into PvP worlds with his clan. We’ve stayed in touch ever since. It’s a one-in-a-million story. Is there anything outside of streaming and OSRS you'd like to share with us? I’ve been a singer and performer since I was very young. I recently formed a band called Pasaron Cosas. It means “things happened” in Spanish which is a popular saying in Argentina. We’re currently exploring our sound and recording in the studio!
If you can’t see the image above, click here! I also have my own artist profile, where I’ve started exploring pop music. My first single is called “Love Spell”, available on all platforms. I’ve loved music from a very young age, and my whole family is made up of musicians. You’re more than welcome to listen to what’s already out, and stay tuned. More to come!
If you can’t see the image above, click here! Pasaron Cosas on Spotify. Elliedd on Spotify. Tell us more about your OSRS-inspired FX make-up! I was born into a very creative household. I started experimenting with make-up in high school for events like Halloween, and last year I decided to take classes for the first time. I’m not lying when I say that in my very first class, I showed the game to my teacher and explained that the whole reason I started was because I wanted to recreate or adapt OSRS characters into real life.
If you can’t see the image above, click here! My Vorki makeup look actually became my final exam for Level 1. I haven’t been able to take Level 2 yet, but I’d absolutely love to continue and keep developing my skills. Special shout out to my wonderful teachers! How can someone join in and become part of your community? First of all, I want to say thank you to every single person who spends time on my streams and supports me! Everyone is welcome to join my streams on Twitch and my Discord server! Expect community events, occasional giveaways, people to do content with, voice chats to de-stress and variety game nights! I’m also always down to help when people needs to learn new content on OSRS. Thank you to Elliedd for answering our questions! Make sure to check her out on Twitch.
