An Update On the Sailing XP Review
We're spinning up a separate post for today's update because we've run out of characters on yesterday's, which you can
Update: 18:10 GMT, Friday, December 5th: We've deployed another hotfix to fix a bug where Dragon Sheets were not having their drop rate boosted correctly while on a Slayer task. Frost Dragons and Lava Strykewyrms should now drop Dragon Sheets more frequently while on a Slayer task. Apologies to any of you who've spent Slayer points skipping for these tasks in the meantime, and thanks to all of you for reporting this one to make sure we investigated!
Update, 16:30 GMT, Friday, December 5th: The team have investigated reports of incorrect drop rates for Dragon Sheets while on a Slayer task for Lava Strykewyrms or Frost Dragons. We can confirm that these are not working as intended while on-task and are not seeing their rate boosted correctly. We'll be working on a fix, but in the meantime we'd advise players to avoid spending Slayer points skipping for these tasks. We apologise for any inconvenience or any Slayer points wasted.
Ahoy sailors! It seems as though yesterday's blog update went down well with many of you, so we've been busy tweaking and tinkering to deliver changes ahead of the weekend.
The short version is: Salvaging and the Marlin Gwenith Glide have been buffed so that their XP rates are closer to pre-adjustment levels. Here's a reminder of the specific changes since our update yesterday, which are now live:
- •We've increased the number of 'active' shipwrecks at each salvaging hotspot. This means every hotspot should have 2 inactive shipwrecks (rather than 3 or more), which will increase uptime for players salvaging.
- •We've restored XP from sorting salvage to its pre-adjustment levels:
- •Barracuda salvage from 13 XP to 15.5 XP.
- •Large salvage from 20 XP to 24 XP.
- •Pirate salvage from 26 XP to 31.5 XP.
- •Mercenary salvage from 30 XP to 63.5 XP.
- •Fremennik salvage from 32 XP to 75 XP.
- •Merchant salvage from 34 XP to 95 XP.
- •We've improved the player's salvaging speed from 5 ticks (3 seconds) to 4 ticks (2.4 seconds).
- •We've reduced the XP modifier for crewmates pulling up salvage, to shift a little more focus onto Salvaging for yourself.
- •Level 4 Deckhandiness XP modifier reduced from 70% to 40%.
- •Level 3 Deckhandiness XP modifier reduced from 60% to 30%.
- •We've added +1,250 XP to completion of the Marlin Gwenith Glide, meaning you'll receive 16,050 XP for a completion. Keep in mind that this number is now affected by the Horizon's Lure, which would put the new boosted completion XP at 16,656.
We're confident that these changes put our numbers about where we'd expect at the top end, and have been running long-form tests for all of these throughout the morning to help validate this. We've been able to rack up:
- •35-40k XP/hr from a full hour of the AFK Sorting method while working on other fixes at 97 Sailing with two Dragon hooks and all crewmates having 4 Deckhandiness. We were taking it very easy so higher rates are likely possible here.
- •105-110k XP/hr from more active salvaging tests while sorting (rather than dropping) anything we pulled up at 87 Sailing with Rune hooks and all crewmates having 4 Deckhandiness.
- •85k XP/hr for 'active' salvaging while working (which might be a more realistic data point for some of you) at 97 Sailing with two Dragon hooks and all crewmates having 4 Deckhandiness.
All of these tests have been without interacting with the Crystal Extractor. Note that individual results may vary with setups below maxed out hooks and crewmates, but if anything feels particularly unusual then please do keep us informed! We'll be monitoring your feedback over the next few days and will adjust further if needed!
Once again, thank you all for bearing with us while we collectively worked through this XP review. We're grateful to have such a passionate community, and hope to see your enthusiasm continue as we work through further aspects of Sailing in the future to make the skill the best it can be.
That's all from us, we'll see you at the shipwrecks!
