Our Stance On Cryptocurrency And Market Manipulation
Quick facts
Top Recently, we've seen cryptocurrencies and meme coins appear that track, trade against, or otherwise attempt to tie themselves to the price or volume of items in our games. We want to be clear about where we stand.
When real-world currency is linked to in-game item prices, real money starts to influence our economies and people are incentivised to act with the intention of real financial gain. We consider this a form of real-world trading, and in practice it is often used as a way to launder gold that has already been traded for real money. It also drives market manipulation. When people have a financial stake in whether an item's price rises or falls, they have every incentive to push it in the direction that pays them, regardless of what that does to everyone else. We don't believe this adds anything positive to the experience of our players or our games.
